You spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on skincare products every year that promise to hydrate and moisturize your skin. With Moraz, you can always find the right skin products and tools to make sure that you have healthy and nourished skin all year long! From our Skin Booster Serum that locks in moisture and protects your skin to our essential skin mask that hydrate and repair. You will always find the right product. But do you need a Hydrator or a Moisturizer? What is the difference?
What is a Hydrator?
A hydrator does exactly what you assume it does, it hydrates your skin. Hydration is the absorption of moisture and infusing it into your cells to improve the ability of your skin to retain and absorb nutrients. That means that you should use a hydrator when you notice that your skin is dry, dull, or lacking much-needed nutrients.
What is a Moisturizer?
While both moisture and hydration have to do with locking in moisture in your skin to combat dryness, moisturizers work to build up your skin’s natural protective barrier to retain moisture. Moisturizers trap in the moisture that is already in your skin. This prevents the loss of water and oils to ensure that your skin remains softer and smoother.
So What Exactly is the Difference?
In short, you use a hydrator to add moisture to your skin and then apply a moisturizer to retain and lock that moisture in. The first is better at introducing new moisture into your skin while the latter is better at keeping the moisture from leaving your skin throughout the day.
Which One is Right for Your Skin?
While you could simply use both a hydrator and then a moisturizer, there are instances and situations where you may prefer one to the other. If you notice that you are more prone to dry skin, flaky skin, itchy skin or your skin is more on the dry-side of the spectrum, you may just have a hard time locking in moisture. In this case, you would be wise to use a moisturizer more frequently. Apply a healthy dose of moisturizer to your skin and double up in the winter when the air is dryer than usual! On the other hand, if you think that your skin is not so dry but rather it is dull and lackluster, you can add a hydrator. This will give your skin plenty of nourishment.
